Fun fact: the months between the end of student teaching & starting the school year I worked at Barnes & Noble. I learned a lot of things about book stores (including how messy & rude people are when it comes to book reshelving!) but spent a lot of lonely nights in the kids’ section. That was the least fun shift because if you have kids you’re huddled up at home in the evenings, not out buying books. I spent a lot of time flipping through picture books & making a mental list of all the ones I’d buy for my future children. Between those hours in Barnes & Noble & all the books we’ve gotten for Adelyn in the past 18 months I have quite the collection to share with you, including the ones that make Adelyn’s list!
I’m partial to silly animal books. Gossie & Duck & Goose are books from two different series that my mother-in-law has a lot of. They are just really cute. Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late is one of those that I discovered at Barnes & Noble- they just crack me up. Penguin on Vacation is a cute story about friendship, plus I’m trying to share my love of penguins with my kid. Finally Sheep in a Jeep is another gift from my mother-in-law (with 6 grandkids she knows her books!) & the rhyming makes Adelyn happy while I just love the sheep.
Adelyn is partial to those books that include her favorite things: dogs, letters, or cars. Go Dog Go is on constant rotation, I Love You Through & Through is really sweet & features a teddy bear that looks quite like hers, Teddy. And Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a new favorite as she is obsessed with the alphabet & figuring out that letters exist.
